Showing Fairly

I believe that it is important to show fairly.  Even if you don't win, at lest you are showing what you bred or raised.  Being a good exhibitor means that you should show your own rabbits.  People that go out and buy rabbits just to show them to win shouldn't show the rabbits then.  They aren't being honest and if they show more then 6 rabbits that aren't theirs and win with them isn't fair either.  Now don't get me wrong, if you buy a rabbit or two and show it just to see how it does is ok.  Everyone wants to know if they have a good rabbit from a breeder and are probably curious how it would place with theirs.  But the difference between a person that does this and a person that buys the rabbits just to win is one will show the rabbit once or twice the other will continuously show the animal to win or get more points.  Now in doing this the person thinks that everyone will be fine with it and won't notice the difference.  Wrong.  Other breeders will recognize the ear tag of the rabbit as not being one they raised and won't think kindly of the breeder for doing this.  The person doing this will make more enemies by not showing their rabbit then what they would probably do showing their own.  If you keep showing rabbits that aren't your own, you will develop a reputation as not being a good person to sell to since you will just show the animal.  Some breeders that sale rabbits to people like this will cut the tail off just so the person can't show it against them or show it at all.  But if you do show your rabbits that you bred and raised, people will think more highly of you and will be a lot nicer to you.

Now they are fair ways to show the rabbits you raise and ones you have bought.  If you buy a rabbit or two from someone and put it in the show to see how it does only show the rabbit once or twice.  There are even some breeders who request that you don't show one of their rabbits against them.  Honoring these requests helps people to know that you are a good breeder and people will be more willing to help you out or sell to you.  You will also make new friends easier instead of making enemies of those that you have met.  Winning at a show will make you feel a lot happier and more excited knowing that your own rabbit that you raised and bred did win, instead of one you bought.  The points and wins that you receive from shows people will start taking notice of and will ask people if they've shown against you.  Most of the responses will be positive and you name will be out there as being a good person to buy a rabbit from.  Trust me, people do take notice of the wins and points you earn but that's not everything, they do ask how you show.  In other words, they ask if you are showing your own rabbits or if you aren't showing your own rabbits.  What kind of breeder are you?
